Rhythm series

Rhythm Teaching Series - DownloadYM

The Rhythm series is a core series for the foundation of student ministry. It unveils the principles of a rescue in Christ, purpose in Christ and living for Christ. We want students to find a lifetime of rhythm of following God’s call for their lives.

WEEK 1: “RESCUE IN CHRIST” WHERE DID I COME FROM? WHO AM I?

Even though the choice to sin destroyed the rhythm in the Garden of Eden, God didn’t walk away. Instead, He went to great lengths to restore the relationship between Him and humanity through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The cross isn’t just where Jesus died. It is where we come to die with Him.

WEEK 2: “FINDING PURPOSE IN CHRIST” – WHAT IS MY PURPOSE?

We find the wonder in the rescue of Jesus and now we pursue a life of becoming like Christ. We cannot be in rhythm with God or in rhythm with others without learning to be in rhythm with ourselves. After all, as followers of Christ, we are supposed to become less as He becomes more. This week students will explore the things that create tension in their own self-perception and learn the ugly truth: Being in rhythm with ourselves and being in rhythm with God go hand in hand.

WEEK 3: “LIVING FOR CHRIST” – HOW SHOULD I LIVE?

No person can have a life in rhythm if they are not at peace with the people around them. In the final week of this series we will be challenged to be in rhythm with others, to be passionate about serving those we encounter and to seek forgiveness and reconciliation when needed.

Teaching Video: "Discovering Life in Christ"

Rhythm Series - Discovering Life in Christ from Source Student Ministries on Vimeo.

A whole generation is asking these questions about their existence:

1. Why am I here? 2. What is my purpose?

- World says: There is no purpose, nothing really matters. - Bible says: To bring glory to God (Gen. 3:8, Ex. 25).

We find the wonder in the rescue of Jesus and now we pursue a life of becoming like Christ (Mark 8:34-37). Jesus says that losers are winners. We weren’t just saved from something; we were saved to something. Jesus living through you only happens when we think less of ourselves and our performance and more of Jesus and his performance for us. We don’t just die; we die to live. The truth is that Jesus + Nothing = everything. Have you died with Christ and forgotten the old self? If so, is Christ living in and through you?

Scripture: Galatians 2:20, Mark 8:34-37.

Teaching series: Rhythm - Week 1 "Wonder"

Main ThoughtWe will discover that being in rhythm with God means that He alone has captured our sense of wonder

Length of service: 70 minutes. We have separate teaching time for middle school and high school. We have a unified worship experience with the band in the middle of the evening. We have small groups immediately after the teaching and response by grade and gender.

Messsage Explanation:  The first week of the Rhythm series sets up the premise that in the beginning, God established a rhythm. We will be talking about the glory of God in creation and always being captivated by His wonder. We will also look at God’s response to Adam’s sin, and we'll see that God continues to seek relationship with us even after things have fallen apart. The cross isn’t just where Jesus died. It is where we come to die with Him. Scripture: Genesis 1:27, Genesis 3:1-13, Isaiah 53:5-6, Romans 5:10, Luke 19:10, 1 Peter 2:24.

Element of fun: The middle school students played the old school game of "Simon says" but with one of our leaders names, "Jason says." It was a great night to welcome our new 6th grade students into the student ministry!

Music Set: You Deserve, Love, God is Able, All I Need is You, Give Me Faith, It is Finished (closing)

Favorite Moment: Sensing the excitement and passion from the students on our first Wednesday night at Source. We had a great turnout for our first night and look forward to what God has in the future!

What's Next: We will be continuing our series "Rhythm" next week. We will be talking about discovering the heart of discipleshipJesus died so He could be our life, not just part of it!
