Source SM Recap: Volume #13

Current Series

: Yolo…life is short, don’t waste it. Title: Week 2 – “Guy Talk” Main Thought:  Real men have courage to stand for truth at all times and in all circumstances. Scripture: Micah 6:8, Genesis 2:19-22, Matthew 22:37-40, 1 Timothy 5:1-2

Message Explanation: Our passion is to help guys grow to become men of God.

What is a real man of God?

No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

A man of God is passionate about: -       Doing what is right: Men are risk takers, adventurers, concerned with purity, passionate, strong, and gentle. -       Loves mercy -       Walks humbly with God.

The true test of being a man is how we treat the opposite sex. There’s something about girls that can shut down a guy’s brain. God created woman because He knew Adam needed companionship that he wasn’t finding in the garden.

But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man (Genesis 2:20-22).

How does a guy relate to girls in a way that is honoring?

1. Treat women the way the Bible says we should.

Two verses that give instruction: Jesus said: “Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence...Love others as well as you love yourself. These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them” (Matthew 22:37-40 MSG).

The second verse that gives great advice on how to treat girls is found in 1 Timothy 5:1-2: "Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity."

 2. Remember that girls are not designed to be a substitute for God.

Nobody can complete you. No matter how great they are, no matter how much you love them and love being around them, they cannot fully satisfy you. God didn’t create Eve to bring permanent satisfaction to Adam. He created her to be a helper. Remember the verse we just read? But for Adam no suitable helper was found. Girls do not take the place of God.

3. Step up and be a leader in your relationships.

In how you date, are you looking for a wife or just another girl? Is how you relate to a girl filled with purity or lust?  "Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts." 2 Timothy 2:22

Be Courageous about truth! We need to be actively running after Jesus, not passively standing by.

Element of fun: We had a video opener called, “Don't be that Guy.” It was a message teaser to help students see how NOT to be a guy in relating to girls. Check it out!

Music: Not Ashamed, King Enthroned, Here for You, All I Need is You, Give me Faith

Favorite Moment: A middle school student tell me that she was living for God at school and at home and how excited she was to grow. It was also great to see the guys listening to the message on becoming a man of God. To watch the message, check out our Vimeo page.

What’s Next: We are moving into the third week of the Yolo series. Week 3 is “Girl Talk” where we will talk about what a woman of God looks like and how she should relate to guys.
