Source SM Recap: Volume #16

Current Series: "I AM: changes who I am"Title: Week 1 – "Hunger for Jesus" Main Thought: We all have a spiritual hunger that only Jesus satisfies. Scripture: John 6:28-35

Message explanation: People were "in search of Jesus" in John 6 because of what He could do for them. Some were coming because they heard about the feeding of the 5,000 plus on the mountainside. The "Free lunch bunch" were following Him because of what they could GET from Him.

In John 6:26-27 Jesus says,“I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. 27 But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”

- Jesus Christ reveals that He is more necessary for life than food. - Just as the Father sent the bread to care for the basic needs of His people in Exodus, He has now sent His Son, the Bread of Life, to care for the ultimate needs of the world.

In Matthew 5:6 Jesus said, "blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled."

Once he changes you, your appetite changes for Him and you will be filled.

Jesus continues 28 They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?” 29 Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” 30 They answered, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe in you. What can you do? 31 After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say, ‘Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat. Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, Moses didn’t give you bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. 33 The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”John 6:28-33.

Miracles or living off of the next spiritual high does not produce last faith. Why are you following Jesus?

To receive the gifts of Jesus but refuse to follow (v. 26) Jesus is not interested in your hand; He wants your heart. Are we seeking His hand, or are we seeking His face?

To receive Jesus and follow Him (v.28) Do you follow Christ because of what He does for you or for Who He is?

Jesus is the only person who can fill our spiritual emptiness.

” 34 “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day.” 35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:34-35.

We have to realize that:

1.. Jesus CHRIST is LIFE 2. Jesus CHRIST in you is LIFE

Bread starts as a seed that is planted in the ground. It grows to maturity and is cut down, ground up, put in the oven and comes out and nourishes our lives.

The same is true with Jesus. He grew to maturity and was cut down and nailed to the cross. He was ground up by being spat upon, mocked, cursed, and beaten. He was placed in the earth and then came out of the earth to give us the opportunity to enjoy a relationship with Him forever!

At the end of the chapter, Peter answers Jesus, “Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?” Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. 69 We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.John 6:68-69

Where else can we go?

Jesus satisfies our hunger and thirst for righteousness. He is our Bread of Life.

YOLO Week 4 "One Month to Live"

Current Series: Yolo…life is short, don’t waste it. Title: Week 4 – “One Month to live” Main Thought: What matters the most is what lasts the longest. Scripture: Psalm 90:12, James 4:14, 2 Peter 3:9

Message explanation: What if you knew you only had one month to live?

“Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom.” (Psalms 90:12 ).

Anyone who listens to My teaching and obeys Me is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse, because it is built on rock. But anyone who hears My teaching and ignores it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will fall with a mighty crash, (Matthew 7:24-27).

Jesus says it is not just listening but obeying that matters. Intentions are never enough, especially with our eternal destination. The decision for eternity rests upon what we put our faith in now. Jesus says to ignore Him is foolish and it leads to eternal destruction. Since #YOLO (You Only Live Once) is not true, then what happens after I die?

A wise person thinks about death (Ecclesiastes 7:4).

Death is inevitable, physical, unsearchable and the END. How do you know what will happen tomorrow? For your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone (James 4:14). This view brings DESPAIR

Death from God’s view

We either suffer SEPARATION (What is Hell?)

Mark 9:43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hellwith two hands Mark 9:48 ‘where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out.’ Rev. 20:10 Then the devil, who had deceived them, was thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, joining the beast and the false prophet. There they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 “in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power.

People in Hell are those who did not repent and trust in Jesus. BUT, Jesus came on a rescue mission to give us hope!

Or we enjoy CELEBRATION

“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).”

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelations 21:3-4

This view brings HOPE

How to really live before you die:

1. Trust IN JESUS (2 Timothy 1:10)

Trusting in Jesus does not mean “perfect’ people, but FORGIVEN people.

2. Invest IN ETERNITY (Ecclesiastes 11:7-8)

The truth is that we will all live forever. When you trust in Jesus alone, you find eternal security in God. The good news is, you don’t have to figure it our on your own. You are not alone. God has promised to lead you and guide you on your journey. On every person’s tombstone there are two dates and a dash in between them. Those dates, of course, are the dates the person was born and the date they died. The dash in between represents their life. Right now, you are living your dash. What will you do with the “dash” you have on planet earth?

YOLO “You only live once.” is not true. We will live for eternity! Where are you headed? Heaven or Hell? Trust in Jesus
