#instalife series – week 2 “#selfie”The teaching from week 2 in 140 characters or less…

1) Recap of Week 1: God is who determines our identity, not how many “likes” we have online!

2) The word “selfie” has a root word, “self.”

3) At the root of sin is SELF. It is the word, “pride.”

4) If we only focus only on people liking us, we lose sight of what God says about us.

5) Focus upon pleasing God and not pleasing people (1 Thessalonians 2:4, Galatians 1:10).

6) Live from God’s approval and not for the approval of people.

7) Stop taking pictures with a motivation to have people PRAISE you. God is who created us.

8) Proverbs 29:26: “Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.”

9) Jealousy based upon outward appearance hurts everyone (Proverbs 14:30).

10) Life is not about drawing attention to self, but denying self to follow Jesus (Luke 9:23).

#instalifeseries – week 1 “#NoFilter”The teaching from week 1 in 140 characters or less…

1) God is who determines our identity and worth, not how many likes we have online.

2) Everyone is important to God and in His eyes we are all masterpieces

3) God sees everything: Psalm 139:1: “O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me."

4) God is continually present. Psalm 139:7: "I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!

5) If we could completely understand God, He wouldn’t be God!

6) God knew us before He made us: Psalm 139:16: "You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book."

7) 1 Samuel 16:7: “Man looks on the outward, but God looks at the heart.”

8) True identity is not finding it in something but in someone, who is Jesus Christ.

9) God has created you as His masterpiece. He doesn’t need a filter to make you look special; you are created in His image.

10) God created you exactly the way that you are. The question is, have you accepted that you are made with God’s filter?

Lead by Example

I've thought a lot lately about my example as a Dad. A pastor. A friend. "Do as I say and not as a I do" is an ineffective way to lead people.

If I want my children to love Jesus, I need to love Jesus by example. If I want students that I lead to share their faith, I need to share my faith. If I want people to be in small groups, I need to be in a small group.

"Everything rises and falls on leadership." John Maxwell "Leadership is action, not position. "D.H. McGannon "Do-so is more important than say-so." Pete Seeger

People not only want to be taught but they want to emulate. Just as important as our public leadership is our private leadership of our actions.
